American Bar Association Appoints Sandra D. Glazier as a Member of the Commission on Law and Aging

Sandy GlazierThe American Bar Association has appointed Sandra D. Glazier to a one-year term as a Member of the Commission on Law and Aging. Ms. Glazier, a Shareholder of the Lipson Neilson law firm, has served as a Special Advisor to the Commission for the past year.

The Commission’s mission is to serve as a leader of the ABA’s work to strengthen and secure the legal rights, dignity, autonomy, quality of life, and quality of care of aging persons. Its work results in policy and practice research and development, coordination and collaboration, and professional and public education.

The Commission is composed of lawyers, judges, academics, and physicians from across the country that provide an expert perspective to a wide range of legal issues, including:

  • Capacity, guardianship and supported decision-making.
  • Elder abuse and exploitation.
  • Health and long-term care.
  • The delivery of legal services.
  • Elder law ethical issues.
  • Income security and aging.
  • Health care decision-making and end-of-life issues.
  • Disability and individual rights.

The Commission’s programs can be divided into four impact areas:

  • Improving access to justice through its work with lawyers and the justice system.
  • Developing public policy and practice solutions that make a difference to all individuals as they age.
  • Raising public understanding of elder rights and legal processes.
  • Combatting age, disability, and economic discrimination in the justice system, law practice, and in public policy.

Glazier is known for her expertise and successful track-record in probate litigation, estate planning, trust and estate administration, and family law matters. The cases Ms. Glazier works on tend to be complex and require technical as well as legal expertise. She has represented contestants and proponents of estate planning documents, as well as fiduciaries, in significant trust litigation proceedings and parties in complex divorce proceedings and has acted as a testifying or consulting expert in probate and family law cases.

Ms. Glazier is routinely requested to speak at some of the leading legal industry conferences across the country. She was selected by the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust and Estate Law to co-author the book Undue Influence and Vulnerable Adults. Described as required reading by industry professionals this book addresses both the role and the importance of the attorney when representing a vulnerable adult.

Ms. Glazier has had numerous articles published by some of the legal industry’s leading publications. Ms. Glazier also acts as an advisor to the Notre Dame Tax Institute, an advisor to the editorial board for Trust & Estates Magazine and has been designated an AEP by the National Association of Estate Planners & Counsels.
