In December 2020, Congress enacted various laws and regulations some of which are of importance to Medicare beneficiaries. Those changes include the following:
- It helps seniors and other individuals with a high cost of medical care by permanently lowering the Medicare expense deduction threshold to 7.5% of gross income.
- The legislation eliminates the up to seven month long wait for coverage that people can experience when they initially sign up for Medicare. Beginning in 2023, Medicare coverage will absolutely begin the month after enrollment.
- The law extends funding for programs that help Medicare eligible individuals and their families and caregivers determine the best way to access affordable comprehensive healthcare.
- The law improves access to healthcare by permanently expanding Medicare coverage of various telehealth services.
