One of the law firm’s founders and a shareholder, Jeffrey T. Neilson is known nationally for his expertise in probate litigation, business counseling, estate planning and domestic and family law liability. He is a recognized expert in deftly handling and litigating sensitive areas of domestic and family law and has a proven track record in successfully handling the areas of probate and professional liability litigation.
Mr. Neilson has more than thirty years of experience in matters relating to probate litigation, probate and trust administration and estate/retirement planning, corporate and business representation and succession planning, election law, accounting and legal malpractice, non-profit organizations, taxation issues including tax controversies, and family law.
This experience has been recognized by his appointment by the State Public Administrator to serve as a Wayne County Public Administrator who is frequently selected by the Judges of the Wayne County Probate Court to assume administration of decedent’s estates, guardianships and conservatorships.
Mr. Neilson also acts as a mediator of disputes involving probate, domestic and general civil litigation cases. He has leveraged his specialized knowledge in business, estate planning, taxation and probate law to provide his clients with the added specialized advantage in their representation in trial court proceedings.
In 2018, the State of Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission honored Mr. Neilson for his service as Secretary of the Commission from October 2011 to October 2017. In honoring Mr. Neilson for his service, the Commission made specific mention of his exceptional, and meritorious service in preserving the highest standards of professional conduct for the protection of the public, the courts, and the legal profession.
Mr. Neilson is licensed to practice law in the states of Michigan, Nevada, Colorado, and Florida. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Probate Section; the Nevada State Bar; and the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants. He is a former member of the Michigan’s Attorney Grievance Commission. His valued insights have been published in a number of national publications including Insurance Advocate and Small Business Opportunities.
