Howard A. Lax and Michael C. Curhan Named to 2006 “Michigan Super Lawyer” by Law & Politics


Bloomfield Hills, Michigan – Howard A. Lax, a partner at Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin, and Of Counsel Michael C, Curhan were recently selected as two of Michigan’s Super Lawyers. The publication Law & Politics chooses honorees each year by an extensive process that includes independent research, a survey of more than 30,000 attorneys statewide who have practiced for five years or more, and a review by a blue-ribbon panel. Only 5% of Michigan attorneys have been selected by Michigan Super Lawyers.

Michigan Super Lawyers is seen by more than 268,000 readers. It was distributed in a special advertising supplement with the September 21 editions of The Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press, as well as certain Michigan editions of the September 24 New York Times. Mr. Lax is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and its Business Law Section as well as the Real Property Law Section, where he is a member of the Section’s governing council and where he contributes resources for real estate attorneys. He also serves on the Condominiums, PUDs and Cooperatives Committee, the Mortgages and Related Financing Devices Committee, the Security Interests Committee, the Residential Transactions Committee, and the On-line Publications Committee. Mr. Lax has written several articles and participated in numerous seminars, including “Michigan Residential Real Estate Documents” and “Preparation and Handling of Michigan Real Estate Closings” for the Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE), and “Federal Regulation of Mortgage Transactions” for the Florida Bar Association’s Advanced Mortgage Law Seminar. He has given many presentations to lenders, auditors, compliance officers, and loan managers regarding regulatory and real estate issues and concerns, and documentation of consumer loans.

Michael C. Curhan serves as "of counsel" to Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin, P.C. and specializes in a range of litigation matters, including employment litigation, business "divorces" and commercial litigation. In 1998, Mr. Curhan was selected as one of ten Michigan “Lawyers of the Year” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

An active member of the legal community, he serves as an advisor to the Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) Employment Law Committee and is a member of the American Bar Association, American Trial Lawyers Association, State Bar of Michigan, the Oakland County Bar Association and the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association.
