Joseph P. Garin Speaks at American Bar Association Conference
Joseph P. Garin, partner in the Bloomfield Hills, Michigan firm of Lipson, Neilson, Cole, Seltzer & Garin, has been honored in speaking at the American Bar Association's Spring 2005 National Legal Malpractice Conference held in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 20-22. Mr. Garin was the only Michigan attorney invited to speak at this national legal event.
The conference featured Mr. Garin in a session titled "Developments in the Law of Lawyering," devoted to cases of significance in the field of lawyer liability, including new case law, case strategies and emerging trends. He was joined on the panel by A. DeVault III, of Bedell, Dittmar, DeVault, Pillans & Coxe PA, in Jacksonville, Florida, and Heather L. Rosing, of Klinedinst PC, in San Diego, California.
As an expert in professional liability claims, Mr. Garin has defended more than 350 lawyers and law firms across Michigan, Illinois, Nevada and Colorado during the course of his career. He maintains an active practice at his firm's Michigan and Nevada offices.
Mr. Garin earned a B.G.S. degree from the University of Michigan and received his J.D. degree cum laude from Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the State Bar of Illinois, the State Bar of Nevada and the State Bar of Colorado. He is admitted before the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan, the District of Nevada, as well as in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Garin is an appointed member of the Client Protection Fund of the State Bar of Michigan. He has served as a court-appointed special master and settlement week facilitator. He is a Michigan SCAO-trained mediator. Mr. Garin was recently named to the Oakland County Bar Association Public Advisory Committee on Judicial Candidates. He annually teaches a continuing legal education seminar, "State of the Law — Legal Malpractice," in cooperation with various local bar associations in Michigan.
